Del Mar Academy – Background Information
Del Mar Academy is a private, bilingual, non-sectarian school that currently offers academic programs from pre-kinder to 6th grade. Our Casa and Lower Elementary Classrooms are fully equipped to follow the curriculum, philosophy and principles of Montessori Education, while our Upper Elementary classroom follows the principles and practices of Progressive Education.

Our school offers an exciting and challenging curriculum, great teaching staff, a low student to teacher ratio, an international student base, vast green areas, quality Montessori materials,  and an emphasis on strong environmental values. We provide a stimulating environment which will help children develop the attitudes, skills, and ideas which are essential for a lifetime of creative thinking and learning.

The long term goals of the Academy are to open seventh grade by 2010 and continue growing one grade level per year until we have grade twelve in 2015. During the Middle School and High School years, we will offer an International Baccalaureate (IB) program designed to help students develop the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills necessary to participate actively and responsibly in a changing world.

The Academy – Physical Environment
The Academy is located in a tranquil, country setting in the ‘L Section’ of Nosara. Currently, the Academy’s seven acres consist of:

• A ‘casa schoolhouse’ (for ages toddler to six years)
• A separate building that has six classrooms including a library and computer room.
• Open air “rancho style” cafeteria.
• Athletic field.
• Playground.
• Administration office.
• On-site home for our full-time care taker and family.

In the future the school will house twenty classrooms, including:

• A central pod which will have four specialty classrooms and a library.
• A separate building for the middle and high school students.
• Swimming pool.
• Multipurpose sport court.

The school is incorporating environmentally-friendly elements throughout the property, such as organic agriculture, recycling programs and compost garden, among others.
