OUR CAMPUS

Del Mar Academy’s physical campus is among its best features. Nestled at the end of a quiet tree lined road and surrounded by jungle, our campus is private and absolutely beautiful! We have over nine spacious acres of precious trees, large green fields and a hill that overlooks it all. One of the most noticeable features is the waving colors of our eighteen different flags that run along our primary entrance. Each flag represents the home country of our students and staff members, making DMA a truly international school, rich with diverse cultures.

Our main school building includes six classrooms for students ranging from first to sixth grade. On the roof of this building you will notice SOLAR panels. DMA is proud to be the first school in Costa Rica to use SOLAR! The second school building, known as the “Casa Building”, has two large ‘casa’ classrooms with vaulted ceilings and a covered patio for our youngest students, and a third classroom for our toddlers. These classrooms open directly to the playground. In 2014 we completed two new buildings for our middle school and high school classrooms, our administration office, and library. All of the buildings have been designed for the tropics, with large open doors and windows. They are energy efficient which coincides with the DMA green initiative of being an environmentally conscious school.

Lunch is served in a large open-air rancho which is located alongside the caretaker house. For sports and gym classes there are two athletic fields and a full size multi-purpose basketball court. The Casa and Toddler age children have a large, shady playground equipped with swings, ropes, slides, tubes, monkey bars and a large, two story “house fort” as well as a boat or “panga” for playtime. They also have their own smaller grassy athletic field where they can stretch their legs and practice their soccer skills.

Del Mar Academy is very fortunate to have access to a community athletic park, adjacent to our campus, equipped with a 15 meter climbing tower and synthetic soccer field.  Most recently a covered, multi-use facility over our current basketball court was constructed and is available for both our students and the community to use for athletics, arts, and civic events. We have ambitious plans for ongoing improvements to our facilities including a full-size athletic field and a swimming pool.

Over the years, the Del Mar Academy students have planted over 100 trees throughout the campus. The children have adopted and learned to care for these native Cost Rican species while they watch them grow with each passing year. Manuel, our head caretaker, does an unbelievable job of keeping the campus beautiful year round and works tirelessly keeping it clean and safe for the children.

Other campus features include a deep water well and plenty of room for the school to grow. We have been careful to blend the functionality of the buildings while keeping lots of open ‘green spaces’ to ensure the campus is beautiful, natural and maintains the feeling…. “I am in Costa Rica!”
